What is google calendar?
Google calendar is a web based calendar, it works just like a normal calendar, you can make notes of events, set reminders and much more. These reminders can be sent to your mobile phone as a text message if you like or as an e-mail or no reminder at all - the choice is yours.

The most useful thing about Google calendar from our Church point of view is that you can link to the Church calendar and know exactly whats going on and when and receive e-mail reminders and text messages telling you exactly what is happening.

Google calendar is free to use.

Sounds great, what do I need to do?
The first thing you need to do (if you don't have one already) is to create a Google account.

Creating a google account
1) Go to this link

and click on "Create an account". You will then be asked to enter your current e-mail address, password etc. Click on "I accept. Create my account".

2) If you've done everything correctly, you will see a page saying "Account Creation Confirmation"
and Google will have e-mailed you an e-mail entitled "Google Email verification" - don't lose this e-mail you'll need it now!

3) Click on the link in the Google email verification, the link will
start: http://www.google.com/accounts/...
If all is well you will see a page from Google stating "Email address verified". Congratulations your Google account is now active.

4) Click on the link that says "Click here to continue".
When you have your google account then follow the steps below to link your personal google account to the Church calendar.

1) On the Church calendar page (above) you will see the Church Google calendar. On the bottom of this page is a little link "+Google calendar".

2) Click on this link and it will take you to the Google account login page.

3) Sign in to your own personal Google account (created above) by entering your username and password.

4) You will now be asked "Would you like to add the calendar: Nigel Warburton <nigel.warburton@knaphillchurch.co.uk>?
Click Yes, add this calendar. This will now mean than your personal calendar shows all the Church events
.
5) If all is well you will see on the left part of your internet browser under "Other Calendars" - HTK & StS What's on? and your personal calendar will show all the current events.

Email / SMS notifications:
If you want to receive email or SMS notifications of what's happening then you will need to do the following:

1) When you've logged in to your personal google calendar, click on "Settings".

2) Next to HTK & StS What's on, click on Notifications - Select when you want to receive invitations / reminders.

3) If you want to use your mobile phone to receive a text message reminder select "Set up your mobile phone to receive notifications" and follow the instructions.
