The Servant Course

2nd (evening) or 3rd (morning) and 9th (evening) or 10th (morning) February 2010
Holy Trinity Church, Chobham Road, Knaphill

In Ephesians 2:8 & 9 St Paul is clear that we have been saved by grace and not by works, and yet in the very next verse he continues, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works". God loves us for who we are but he loves us too much to leave us as we are. God made human beings to partner with him and He gifts us each uniquely for that purpose.

We know that one role of the Holy Spirit is to equip each of us for these 'works of service' so that together we can, as the body of Christ, continue His ministry. We each may know much of this but actually putting it into practice is another matter! The Servant Course is based upon the 'Network' material from Willow Creek and its aim is to help people discover or affirm their God-given gifts and passions so as to have the confidence to put them into practice.

We realise that many in our church know something about Spiritual Gifts. In January we will be running a short sermon series to go over the foundations. If you can't hear all these on the day, you will be able to download them from this website. In January, those who want to participate in the course will have to enroll, pay £6 for a training manual, and make some simple preparations. You will need to have signed up by the end of Sunday January 24th.

In February we will run 2 teaching events and each of these will be run twice, once in the daytime and once in the evening. The Teaching dates, all in February, are:

Teaching 1 - 8.00 - 9.30pm of Tuesday 2nd February or 10.30am-12pm of Wednesday 3rd February
Teaching 2 - 8.00 - 9.30pm of Tuesday 9th February or 10.30am-12pm of Wednesday 10th February

Following on from the course, each participant will have an hour-long consultation to talk about the outcomes and applications. The provisional dates when we will be running these consultations are 23rd and 25th February and, again, we will have both evening and daytime appointments.

Our prayer as we've been planning is that many more of us will be released into works of service which will have all sorts of shapes and consequences in our lives and in the life of our church. St Paul's vision in Ephesians 4 is of a body growing up into Christ as each part does its work. This has to be a key training course for us as we seek to be "Making Jesus visible by word and power"!
