Lent
Study 2010
At
our 2009 Church Weekend, Touching Heaven, Changing Earth,
the speaker, Chris Neal, delivered two especially challenging talks
on the Saturday. He was reflecting to us how the world has changed
and questioning whether the Church and Christians have responded
to these changes to present and proclaim the Gospel in relevant
ways.
Many were stirred by his words and wondered how to close the gap
between the big picture he was presenting and the daily activities
of our lives as Christians and our activities as a church. If you
want to listen again to the talks they are available to download
here
(scroll down the page to see Sessions 1 and 2 which are each split
into two parts) or ask for a CD from Jo in the church
office.
Looking at the feedback from the weekend, what nobody seemed to
question was that Chris' analysis should affect how we live for
Jesus in our current place and culture. Bonnie and I have spent
some time reflecting upon what Chris said at the weekend and upon
our own experiences in an effort to generate material for midweek
groups to follow during Lent 2010. If you are not currently involved
in a midweek group
and would like more details of which groups are taking advantage
of this material, please contact Jo in the church
office, or tel: 01483 473489.
This material is intended to stimulate and challenge so that we
reflect Biblically and culturally under the guidance of The Spirit
to seek insight and wisdom that gives specific direction for our
developing Mission - Making Jesus Visible by Word and Power. The
material is quite 'loose' so that each group can adapt it to suit
themselves, but we would urge every group to take this opportunity
to think differently and resist falling back into well-worn tracks.
Week
1 - Sheep without a Shepherd
Week 2 - Feeding
5000
Week 3 - Values
of 'Salt & Light'
Week 4 - Gravitational
Pull
Week 5 - A missional
church or a church in mission?
As we approach Easter 2010, if Jesus is alive and His Gospel is
for all people then, like those who took The Good News out into
the Roman Empire, we must be prepared to unleash all its potency
with imagination and risk! We look forward to what all the groups
come back with - please don't keep it to yourselves!
