Weekend at Home : Touching Heaven, Changing Earth
Friday
23rd - Sunday 25th October 2009
In
these days of financial uncertainty the PCC has decided that, rather
than go away as we've done in the recent past, we're going to set
apart a special weekend in October to be together here.
That will make the weekend feel different and it will bring challenges
as well as opportunities. We are planning all sorts of activities
for all ages from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon. We've
also invited a speaker, Chris Neal, to bring us fresh insights and
energy. I think his experiences and passions make him ideally suited
to challenge and inspire us.
On
Sunday 28th June Chris came to preach at a special united parish
service at St Saviour's - you can hear his sermon by clicking the
podcast icon. As we each prepare for our Parish Weekend in October,
he's asked us all to read the Gospel of Luke with fresh eyes, from
beginning to end in one sitting...be warned, it could change your
life!
Let's all make this weekend in October a priority!
Here's a very brief outline of what we've planned so far...

Chris
Neal
Chris
has been involved in Christian Ministry for some 40 years, 32 of
them in local Parish Ministry. Until 2003 he was Team Rector of
Thame. During 17 years there he was involved in planting several
congregations, the exploration of new forms of Christian community,
and helping lead the Church into a cell model.
From
2000 - 2003 Chris was also the Oxford Diocesan Director of Evangelisation,
helping the church in the diocese to respond to the radically changing
cultural context and mission landscape.
From 2003 he has been with Church Mission Society currently as Director
of Mission & Community. In this role he is helping CMS re-imagine
its calling and role in the rapidly changing global mission scene,
and also seeking to release a movement of people who want to see
their discipleship shaped by a mission spirituality and build mission
community wherever they go.
Chris is passionate that the Church rediscovers its true missional
calling. He believes this can only happen as individually and corporately
Christians discover the global and universal significance of Jesus
in deeper ways, and allow him to shape their lives and communities.
Chris is married with three children, and in his spare time enjoys
walking, theatre and music.
